The Real Cost of 'Being Strong' While Black

For many of us, strength has always been about survival—carrying the weight of history, navigating pain in silence, and pushing through no matter the cost. But this idea of "being strong" while Black is more harmful than empowering. It leads to emotional, mental, and physical exhaustion, and it keeps us trapped in silence, pretending everything is okay when it’s not. In some situations, like during pregnancy and childbirth, strength becomes a matter of life and death. However, we don’t have to carry this burden all the time. It’s time to redefine what true strength really looks like for us.
